Wide margins waste space on a phone, a tablet or an e-reader. Find margins looks at every page, finds where the text and pictures actually are, and crops the empty border away, keeping a little space so nothing touches the edge. Pages of the same size get the same crop, with odd and even pages measured separately because books shift their margins from side to side, so the pages do not jump around as you read.
Scanned pages work too: the paper colour is measured from each page, so an off-white scan is judged against its own paper, and specks of dust are ignored. A page whose content runs right to the edge is left as it is rather than guessed at.
The page is not turned into a picture. Only the page boundary moves, so text stays sharp and selectable, links still work, and form fields can still be filled in. Rotated pages are cropped the way you see them on screen.
Cropping hides what is outside the box but does not delete it, which is how every PDF crop works. To remove sensitive content for good, use Redact PDF. To change the paper size instead, such as A4 to Letter, use Change PDF Page Size.
